Books
The centuries are mirror of the present; inner thoughts, however, reflect a man’s personality and the bygone epochs, as well.
In the new, knowledge-based society, access to new and interesting information is raising, while knowledge plays a key part. Through education during imbiber history, the “carriers” of the civic knowledge are the books, and the containing information, which shape the sensitivity of the spirit. Of course, this is applicable to musical sheets, as well.
It is well known that lower, middle and upper class, come across books, at a certain moment in their existence. In the first years of our life, even before we start our scholar education, the development of our imagination is of great importance. The parent bears a huge responsibility: with the help of fairy-tales to evoke the child’s curiosity, imagination and keep it there for a long time.
Later on, the scholar phase offers the ground base to choose from the “cultural menu” and the shelves, those books we really like. The encouragement, the motivation arises from the example of the adult. Reading a good book could become an “exciting game”, since it contains the messages the author has intended to pass on and the findings of the reader’s mind.
Reading, also, represents an inner relationship in which time and place disappears, shutting us off from the outside world, opening the wonderful gates of the imaginary. Most of the ideas found inside the pages of a book are linked to little true things, making people come across different points of views, conclusions offering thus the chance to lay down the foundations of the own cultural background which shall be enhanced during the entire lifetime. The book in the readers’ hands is like the score to a musician. Unless he pays attention to the reading, the book becomes a simple sequence of letters, like a bunch of musical notes to the layman. Instead, to the interested and receptive reader it reveals its hidden “treasures”, just like for a musician sounds emerge in a natural sequence to create harmony.
Music is a language … in a language.
For me and others as well, music is a language – a language skilfully used by composers and artists, interpreters. The foundation of the musical language is a black and white alphabet book while every composer uses the same “tool kit” of 12 musical notes. What changes is the shape of music seen through personal experiences or adventures. This is what is happening in the world of books, as well.
Every book, as every musical composition, delivers different values. The words as well as notes are the same; their sequence and diversity is infinite. Every book increases our knowledge about the world we live in, our ancestors have lived in, and we want to live in. It is a fantastic experience for those who can read with their mind. The two books the viewers have access to, reflect the personality of such a person whom has dedicated his entire life to promoting Oradea’s musical values, worldwide.
The musicologist and local historian, Sándor Thurzó, remains to the present day, a dominant personality of Oradea’s cultural history.
