Disciple of the artistic life of Oradea – in memoriam Sándor Thurzó
Music and reflection.
“Let no one ever come to you without leaving happier.” (Mother Teresa)
A town’s barometer of life rests in its culture. “The true value of a city rests in its cultural past and present” said among others, Sándor Thurzó. The Thurzós are the only family in Oradea’s history to possess a complete archive of the city’s classical music life. Sándor Thurzó believed in the salvation of the world. Building a value system is a consistent and laborious work, because it brings salvation itself.
He laid the foundations to many things in Oradea. Sándor Thurzó, a music historian and musicologist started to gather, organize and process this rare archive, about 100 years ago. Extensive, scientific research work marked every moment of his life. The private collection of historical traditions allows a glimpse into the special connection this family has had/has with the research work related to the city of Oradea and music, and has enabled/enables for those interested in the musical background to trace down the transformation of classical epochs. Sándor Thurzó. As a dominant figure in the Art history of Oradea – he aimed for the development of his beloved hometown.
His entire life, his work was driven by the love for music. The centuries are mirror of the present, inner thoughts, however, partly reflect a man’s personality. Based on other people’s commemoration, the beloved reader is able to find about a man who even in death, has remained an integral part of the local and international collective consciousness.
A commemorative book, which represents so much more.
The printed commemorative book is the first ever work of art praising the musicologist, Sándor Thurzó’s efforts, whom secretly, for eight decades, has been the torch bearer of the city’s cultural life through heart, research results and demeanour. Let us imagine a representation of the tomb of Rousseau: at the end of the huge sarcophagus, through a collapsing door, a hand holding a lantern emerges. While he was alive, Sándor Thurzó was the light, and things did not change after his death. The door opens for us to return when we have finished everything we have been sent here for. When the reader begins to read the commemorative book, he is thrown through a cross-section; he is time travelling while puzzling life stories are being projected in front of his eyes.
Hopefully, you will find this commemorative book useful.
